Youth Council

The Merced Youth Council will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Sam Pipes Room of City Hall, 678 W. 18th St. On the agenda are goals and projects for the 2015 year. The meetings are open to any youths, and leaders are encouraging young people to contribute ideas. Youth driving class

A class offered by the California Highway Patrol for new and prospective young drivers is set for Wednesday. The class is free, but space is limited. Teenagers 15 to 19 and their parents or guardians are invited to attend the two-hour class at the Merced CHP office, 1500 Bell Drive, Atwater. Class topics include techniques to avoid collisions, the dangers of driving under the influence, primary causes of crashes, and seat belt usage. The latest “Red Asphalt” video will be shown. Pasta for Castle

The Castle Air Museum plans a pasta dinner fundraiser from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 24 at the Atwater Community Center, 760 E. Bellevue Road in Atwater. The cost is $10 for the dine-in or takeout pasta with meat sauce donated from DiCicco’s Italian Restaurant of Merced. Art exhibits

The Merced Multicultural Arts Center is hosting a group of exhibits by Martin Castro, Elaine Sachs and Edwin Macaraeg, along with “The Really Big Show” in the Arbor Gallery. The center is at 645 W. Main St. Entry is free. The exhibit runs through Jan. 9. Hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays; 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. Jack Hanna

Animal exhibitor Jack Hanna and his “Into the Wild Live” tour is coming to the Merced Theatre at 7 p.m. Jan. 16. Hanna will introduce the audience to some of the world’s animals, and share stories and exclusive footage from his worldwide adventures. Tickets range from $20 to $35. The Merced Theatre is at 301 W. Main St.

Coat drive

The United Way is sponsoring a coat drive to benefit those in need in the community. Drop off new or slightly used coats at United Way of Merced County, 658 W. Main St., from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
