Recycled string band concert
The Recycled String Band will entertain children Saturday at 10:30 a.m. as part of the Second Saturdays Series at the Merced Multicultural Arts Center, 645 W. Main St. This group from Mariposa has played for kids at national parks for many years and has several CDs. The charge for the one-hour concert is $3 for children, free for adults.
Women’s Bible study
Coffee Break, an interdenominational women’s Bible study, will begin a 10-week study on the Old Testament book of Isaiah beginning Tuesday. Women from all churches are welcome to attend. The study will be from 10 a.m. to noon at Yosemite Church, 2230 E. Yosemite Ave., Merced. Free child care is available. For more information, call 209-383-5038, ext. 16.
Retired women’s luncheon
The January luncheon of the Merced College Retired Women will be held Jan. 14 at 11:30 a.m. at La Hacienda Restaurant. No reservation is required. Visit with retired women in a relaxing atmosphere. For more information, call 209-358-5376.
Courthouse Museum docent training
The Merced County Courthouse Museum is recruiting volunteers. Docents serve as tour guides for visitors to the Courthouse Museum and help to educate the public about Merced County history. An annual docent training session is scheduled Jan. 16 at 10 a.m. at the Courthouse Museum. Coffee and breakfast rolls will be provided. Please make your reservation by calling the museum office at 209-723-2401. New and returning docents are welcome to participate. The museum is at 21st and N streets.
Driving courses
The Merced College noncredit program is offering mature driver improvement classes in January. Many insurance companies offer discounts to drivers 50 and older who complete this course. The first mature driver improvement class will take place Jan. 20 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Atwater Community Cener, 760 Bellevue Road. A bus driver training and recertification course will take place at Merced College, room AG-10, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. starting Jan. 23. There are no registration fees for these classes. Merced Shakespearefest community theatre production
Merced College Community Services will be presenting “Julius Caesar” by the Merced College Theatre Department on Jan. 22-23 and Jan. 29-30 at 7:30 p.m. And on Jan. 24 and Jan. 31 at 2 p.m.. The cost is $30 per participant. For more information, call 209-384-6224 or email communitysvc@mccd.edu.
