‘Charlie Brown’ at Playhouse Merced

“You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” opens at Playhouse Merced on Friday. The family-friendly musical based on the Charles Schulz comic runs for three weekends. Tickets can be purchased by calling Playhouse Merced at 209-725-8587 or going to www.playhousemerced.com.

Recycled String Band concert

The Recycled String Band will entertain children at 10:30 a.m. Saturday as part of the Second Saturdays Series at the Merced Multicultural Arts Center, 645 W. Main St. This group from Mariposa has played for kids at national parks for many years and has several CDs. The cost for the one-hour concert is $3 for children, free for adults.

La Grange Odd Fellows breakfast

Start out the New Year with a resolution to have a good old-fashioned breakfast once a month in La Grange. The Odd Fellows of LaFayette Historical Lodge No. 65 remind the public about its monthly breakfast, which takes place every second Sunday at the IOOF Hall in downtown La Grange. The first one of the year will take place Sunday. The hall is open early from 7 to 11 a.m., with a menu of biscuits and gravy, sausage, ham-and-cheese omelets and French toast. Complimentary coffee and orange juice round out the meal, all for $6.

Look Good Feel Better workshop

The American Cancer Society will host a free two-hour workshop for female cancer patients experiencing appearance-related side effects from their treatment. The workshop Look Good Feel Better will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the Mercy UC Davis Cancer Center, 3850 G St. The workshop repeats every second Monday of the month.

Courthouse Museum docent training

The Merced County Courthouse Museum is recruiting volunteers. Docents serve as tour guides for visitors to the Courthouse Museum and help to educate the public about Merced County history. An annual docent training session is scheduled for 10 a.m. Jan. 16 at the Courthouse Museum. Coffee and breakfast rolls will be provided. Please make a reservation by calling the museum office at 209-723-2401. New and returning docents are welcome to participate. The museum is at 21st and N streets.

Driving courses

The Merced College noncredit program is offering mature driver improvement classes in January. Many insurance companies offer discounts to drivers 50 and older who complete this course. The first mature driver improvement class will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Jan. 20 at the Atwater Community Cener, 760 Bellevue Road. A bus driver training and recertification course will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. starting Jan. 23 at Merced College, Room AG-10. There are no registration fees for these classes. ‘Julius Caesar’ at Merced College

Merced College Community Services will present “Julius Caesar” by the Merced College Theatre Department at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 22-23 and Jan. 29-30; and at 2 p.m. Jan. 24 and Jan. 31. The cost is $30. For more information, call 209-384-6224 or email communitysvc@mccd.edu.
