Rose pruning workshop
Merced Gardens and Nursery will host a free session on rose pruning at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Rose Garden section of the nursery, 1007 Tahoe St. Staff will demonstrate how to prune all types of roses and discuss yearlong care to guarantee beautiful blooms. CASA volunteers
Court Appointed Special Advocates of Merced County will be training a new group of trainees beginning Wednesday. Volunteers advocate for the best interest of children who, through no fault of their own, have been abused and neglected. For more information, call 209-722-2272.
Promotion of Life Rally
Come to pray, listen to music, hear speakers and pick up informational leaflets. The Promotion of Life Rally will take place from noon to 1 p.m. on Jan. 21 at the steps of the Old Merced Courthouse Museum (21st and N streets). The speaker this year is Pat Lometti from the Rachel’s Vineyard group in Fresno, which holds weekend sessions to help in the healing of women and men affected by past abortions.
Disney Institute course for Merced professionals
The Greater Merced Chamber of Commerce will host Disney’s Approach to Business Excellence, a one-day professional development course by the Disney Institute, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Feb. 26 at Gateway Gardens. The event will help professionals in the area understand the power of leadership values and discover how customer loyalty can be established. Wayward Ponies’ Home Open House
Because of El Niño conditions, the seventh annual fundraiser for the Wayward Ponies’ Home will be held indoors from noon to 2 p.m. Febs. 20 at McKay Hall in Catheys Valley Park, 2820 E. Highway 140, Catheys Valley. Admission and refreshments are free. There will be a caravan to the sanctuary at 2 p.m. Donations of brand-new merchandise or gift certificates are needed for the potluck raffle. For more information, go to www.waywardponieshome.org. ‘Finally Clutter-Free’ workshop
Author and speaker Kathi Lipp will present a half-day workshop called “Finally Clutter Free” from 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 27 at Yosemite Church, 2230 E. Yosemite Ave. Lipp will share “no-shame-no-blame” practical housekeeping tips for a clutter-free home. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased at iTickets.com or at the Yosemite Church office.
