Autism support group

Challenged Family Resource Center in Merced is hosting a support group for parents of autistic children on Jan. 21 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the center, 827 W. 20th St. For more information, call the Resource Center at 209-385-5314.

Day at Black Oak Casino

The Italian Catholic Federation is sponsoring a day at Black Oak Casino on Jan. 25. The cost is $28 per person. People will receive $10 for gaming, $5 for table play and $5 toward lunch. There will be refreshments, a free raffle and bingo on the bus. The bus will depart from the parking lot across from the Post Office, 23rd and M streets, at 9 a.m. sharp. Boarding begins at 8:45 a.m. Please have your driver’s license or other photo ID. The bus will depart the casino at 3:30 p.m. and be back in Merced by 5 p.m. Reservations can be made by calling Nettie Descalso at 209-383-4819 or Arlene Gach at 209-722-9413. Checks should be made out to Italian Catholic Federation, and mailed to 2829 Bedford Drive, Merced, 95340. The deadline to hold reservations is Jan. 22.

District 1 town hall meetings

John Pedrozo, District 1 supervisor for Merced County, will hold four town hall meetings in the upcoming weeks in Le Grand, Planada, Merced and Livingston. The town hall meetings are informal public forums for residents to voice their opinions and hear responses from county and public representatives. The meetings are scheduled as follows: 6:30 p.m. Jan. 27 at the Le Grand Legion Hall, 12560 Le Grand Road; 6:30 p.m. Feb. 3 at the Planada Community Center, 9167 E. Stanford Ave.; 6:30 p.m. Feb. 17 at Tenaya Middle School’s multipurpose room, 760 W. Eighth St. in Merced; and 6:30 p.m. Feb. 24 at the Livingston City Council Chambers, 1416 C St.

Merced County Human Services volunteer program orientation

The Volunteer/Senior Companion Program was developed out of the need for socialization of our community’s aging adults. The program matches volunteers with similar likes to one of the referred seniors. Orientation will be held in Merced at 815 W. 23rd St. on Jan. 26. The first training begins at 9 a.m. with a second session at 6 p.m. For more information or to enroll in this upcoming training, contact Janet Appling-Kasper, volunteer program coordinator, at 209-354-2525.

Learn how to trace your roots at the annual program for beginners. Get started with a free packet of materials, forms and tips to help you find your ancestors. Join the Merced County Genealogical Society at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 30 in the Gracey Room, Merced County Library, 2100 O St. The meeting is open to all; no membership is required.

Family Fun Night

This Ain’t Your Mama’s Church invites the community to Family Fun Night, a night of music, potluck and games for all ages. The event is from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 4 at 1405 W. Main St. in Merced. Attendees are asked to bring a large dish, a salad or dessert. For more information, visit www.bikechurch.org.
