Dancing at senior center

Parent/student orientation for 8th-graders at Merced High
Merced High School will have an eighth-grade parent/student orientation at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the school gym. This is the first opportunity for parents and students to meet counselors, teachers and coaches, as well as receive important information about transitioning to high school. Parents are asked to bring the course selection and enrollment forms that will be given to students this week. Environmental literacy

Play group
The Challenged Family Resource Center offers a play group every Tuesday from 11 a.m. to noon for children up to age 5. The center, at 827 W. 29th St., also has a support group for parents who have children with special needs on the last Wednesday of each month. For more information, call 209-384-0119.
‘Music, Memories & Friends’ production
The Merced Harmony Valley Chorus of Sweet Adelines International is celebrating its 50 years of musical activity in the community with a production of “Music, Memories & Friends” on Jan. 30 at 2 p.m. at the Merced Theatre. The musical afternoon will include the Merced College Jazz Band, Voices United Fresno Sweet Adeline Chorus and its quartets, CPC Handbell Chorus and a local ukulele group. Old Timers Luncheon
The Merced County Old Timers Association is looking for individuals to honor at the 74th annual Old Timers Luncheon. The Old Timers committee was formed in 1942 to honor individuals who are 85 years of age or older who have lived in Merced County for 50 years or longer. This year’s luncheon will be held April 17 at the Italo-American Lodge in Merced. Honorees receive a free luncheon and are presented with certificates and proclamations from various political districts, including the Merced County Board of Supervisors.
