Julie-N-Friends Gospel concert

Julie Eichelberger will present her fifth Sunday gospel concert series “Julie-N-Friends” at 6 p.m. Sunday. The talent lineup for the concert includes the Lighthouse Boys of Bakersfield, the California Melody Boys of Tulare, Bridge of Grace of Merced and Kala Underwood of Madera. The concert will be at the Christian Life Center, 650 E. Olive Ave. in Merced, and is free. For more information, call Julie at 559-304-1102.

Humane Society adoption event

Looking for a new Best Friend? Local pet rescue Merced County Humane Society will be at the Merced PetSmart, 1196 W. Olive Ave., on Jan. 30-31, and again on Feb. 6-7. Puppies, kittens, dogs and cats are ready to find forever homes. Come down to adopt, visit or volunteer from noon to 4 p.m. For more information, email mchs324@gmail.com.

Karaoke at the hall

There will be a karaoke night from 7 to 10 p.m. Feb. 5 at the VFW Hall, 1390 Broadway Ave., in Atwater. The event is free. The lounge will be open, and pulled pork sliders will be available for $2 each and coleslaw for 50 cents. Singers will enjoy a wide selection of music. Everyone is in for a fun time of refreshment, entertainment and good company.

Breakfast at the hall

Breakfast is served the first Sunday of each month from 8 to 11 a.m. at the VFW Hall, 1390 Broadway Ave., in Atwater. Omelets and eggs are cooked to order with hash browns, bacon or sausage, biscuits or biscuit and gravy for $7. Waffle with strawberries and cream are served with bacon or sausage for $4, and two biscuits with sausage gravy for $3. All meals include coffee and juice. Proceeds go to programs for veterans.

Valentine’s Tea Party

The Bear Creek Inn is partnering up with Vanilla Orchid Catering for a Valentine’s Tea Party from 2 to 4 p.m. Feb. 7. Residents are welcomed to bring friends and family to the inn for an afternoon tea party, beautiful atmosphere and historic storytelling in a 1930s Merced home. There will be scones, a selection of savories and delectable desserts. Cost is $35 per guest. Payment must be made at time of reservation. Reservations can be made by phone with a credit card or in person with cash. No refunds will be given. Reservations will be open until Feb. 2; call 209-723-3991.

Singing valentines

The Golden Valley Men's Barbershop Chorus is offering singing valentines for the 30th year in the Merced and Atwater areas. A barbershop quartet will sing a romantic song, present a card, a silk rose and take a digital photo of the recipient with the quartet. To make reservations for Feb. 12, 13 or 14, call 209-383-3808. Cost is $40; $45 if by credit card.
