‘Music, Memories & Friends’ Production

The Merced Harmony Valley Chorus of Sweet Adelines International is celebrating its 50 years of musical activity in the community by hosting a production of “Music, Memories & Friends” on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Merced Theater. The performance will include the Merced College Jazz Band, Voices United Fresno Sweet Adeline Chorus and its quartets, Handbell Chorus, Local Ukulele Group. SPCA adoption event

The Merced Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals will hold an adoption event from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Petco store in Atwater, 1230 Commerce Ave. Shelter animals will be available for pre-adoption that day. There also will be information regarding volunteering, becoming a foster parent and becoming a member of the organization. The SPCA’s no-kill shelter is at 1021 E. Childs Ave., Merced, and is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. The public is encouraged to visit the adoptable dogs and cats. Winter Coat Drive

United Way Of Merced County’s Winter Coat Drive runs until Saturday. The following items can be donated: coats, hats, gloves, boots, shoes, scarves, snow pants. Items can be dropped off at 658 W. Main St. For more information, call 209-383-4242.

Friends of the Library meeting

The Friends of the Merced County Public Library will hold their winter meeting at 5 p.m. Feb. 4 in the Gracey Room, 2100 O St. The public is welcome. Find out what exciting things are coming up at the library.

San Joaquin Valley Olive Oil Competition

The Big Fresno Fair is proud to announce the second annual San Joaquin Valley Olive Oil Competition. The event is open to all olive oil producers in California, with olive oil made from the most recent olive harvest. Entries are being accepted. Deadline to enter is Feb. 26. Old Timers Luncheon

The Merced County Old Timers Association is looking for individuals to honor at the 74th annual Old Timers Luncheon. The group was formed in 1942 to honor individuals that are 85 years or older and have lived in Merced County for 50 years or longer. This year’s luncheon will be held on April 17 at the Italo-American Lodge in Merced. Honorees will receive a free luncheon and are presented with certificates and proclamations from various political affiliations, including the Merced County Board of Supervisors.
