Uechi Ryu Karate
The City of Merced’s Recreation Department is offering Uechi Ryu Karate on Mondays and Thursdays for $45 per month. Ages 6 to 12 meet at 5:30 p.m. and ages 13 and up meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Rossotti Ed-Zoo-Cation Center, located at 1045 West 25th Street. Annual Lobster Fest
The Atwater Rotary Club will be holding its 12th Annual Lobster Fest on Feb. 6 at the Atwater APC Hall at 3rd and Elm streets. The diners will enjoy a whole lobster with dessert and all you can eat salad, bread, pasta and soft drinks. There will be a no-host bar. Complimentary wine will be served during the meal. Dinner tickets are $50 and eligible for a $1,000 cash door-prize drawing. Tickets, which need to be purchased in advance, are available from Atwater Rotarians or through Roger Wood at 209-358-7343 or roger95301@att.net.
Buhach High Music Boosters Crab Feast
The Buhach Colony High School Music Boosters will hold its 11th annual Crab Feast on Feb. 6 from 5:30 p.m. until midnight at the Merced Fairgrounds. There will be a jazz band, dancing and an auction. Second Saturdays with the South Pacific Dance Company
The enthusiasm and warmth of Becky Manandic, better known as Aunty Becky, will have your children dancing the hula and humming Polynesian melodies along with her South Pacific Dance Company during this month’s Second Saturdays event. The next event will take place Feb. 13 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Merced Multicultural Arts Center, 645 W. Main St., Merced. The cost is $3 for children and adults attend free.
Soroptimist Saturday of Service
The first Saturday in March each year has been designated as Saturday of Service for Soroptimists around the world. This is the date that Soroptimists everywhere do a service project for their community. For the past 11 years, Soroptimist I of Merced has worked at the Merced County Public Library. Participants will clean shelves, books, tables, toys in the Little Theater, and furniture and computer keyboards in the children’s library.
