Karaoke at the hall
Karaoke night will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday at the VFW Hall, 1390 Broadway Ave., in Atwater. The event is free. The lounge will be open, and pulled-pork sliders will be available for $2 each and coleslaw for 50 cents. Singers will enjoy a wide selection of music. Everyone is in for a fun time of refreshment, entertainment and good company.
LGBT Valentine’s bake sale
The Merced LGBT Community Center will be selling Valentine’s-themed baked goods and balloon arrangements to the community in an effort to raise money to preserve its future as a community resource. The bake sale will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in front of the Regal Hollywood Merced 13 theater at 403 W. Main St. The center will also be taking orders beginning Monday. Orders will be available for delivery or pickup at the LGBT Community Center on Feb. 13 and 14, just in time for Valentine’s Day.
Catholic Schools Week
St. Anthony’s School in Atwater will observe Catholic Schools Week with activities planned throughout the week. The week will end with an open house from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday and a school Mass on Sunday. For more information, call 209-358-3341.
‘Face of an Athlete’ photo exhibit
The Merced County Arts Council invites the public to a free reception for “Face of an Athlete,” a photographic exhibit celebrating local athletes, by Merced photographer Jay Sousa from 5:30 to 7:30 Feb. 12 at the Merced Multicultural Arts Center, 645 W. Main St. The exhibit can also be viewed in the center’s main gallery from Feb. 9 to April 15.
Fireballs baseball sign-ups
The Fireballs Baseball Club is hosting sign-ups from 2 to 6 p.m. Feb. 14, 21 and 27 at the Merced Mall. The season starts in March. Costs range from $65 to $85, depending on the child’s age. Full uniforms include a jersey, hat, belt, pants and socks. Sponsoring and fundraising is available. For more information, call 209-626-9474.
Art & Spirits workshop
The Merced County Arts Council and Arbor Gallery will host an Art & Spirits workshop. Enjoy an evening of wine, painting and fun from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 19. It doesn’t matter whether participants are artists or have never painted anything in their lives. An experienced local artist will show participants everything they need to know, and all refreshments and supplies are included in the $35 charge.
