Fireballs baseball sign-ups
The Fireballs Baseball Club will host sign-ups from 2 to 6 p.m. Feb. 14, 21 and 27 at the Merced Mall. The season starts in March. Costs range from $65 to $85, depending on the child’s age. Full uniforms include a jersey, hat, belt, pants and socks. Sponsoring and fundraising is available. For more information, call 209-626-9474.
Play group
The Challenged Family Resource Center has its weekly play group for children up to age 5 from 11 a.m. to noon every Tuesday at 827 W. 29th St. There also is a support group for parents who have children with special needs that meets the last Wednesday of each month. Save Our Youth essay contest
Save Our Youth, a Merced-based nonprofit, is taking entries for its essay-writing contest for children 7 to 11 years old. The essays must be submitted by Feb. 24, and a tutoring session for essay writing is set from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Feb. 17 at the Save Our Youth Leadership Academy, 1903 G St. The top six essays will be awarded with prizes from $20 to $75. Olive oil competition
The Big Fresno Fair announces the second annual San Joaquin Valley Olive Oil Competition, open to all olive oil producers in California with olive oil made from the most recent harvest. The deadline for entries is Feb. 26. ‘Clutter Free’ workshop
Author and speaker Kathi Lipp will conduct a half-day workshop called “Finally Clutter Free” from 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 27 at Yosemite Church, 2230 E. Yosemite Ave. Lipp will share “no-shame-no-blame” practical housekeeping tips for a clutter-free home. Tickets are $30 and available at iTickets.com or the Yosemite Church office.
