St. Paul kindergarten

Art lecture
Harvard University professor Doris Sommer will speak on “The Work of Art in the World: Civic Agency and Public Humanities” at noon Feb. 22 in the California Room at UC Merced, 5200 Lake Road. The event, part of the school’s fourth annual Distinguished Lecture in the Humanities series, is free but organizers ask those interested to register at http://crha.ucmerced.edu.
High-speed rail
The city of Merced, in partnership with the California High-Speed Rail Authority, plans a “Visioning Workshop” from 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 24 in the Sam Pipes Room of City Hall, 678 W. 18th St. The meeting is open to the public. Veterans job fair
The Merced Veterans Employment Committee will host a job and information fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 25 at the American Legion Hall, 939 W. Main St. About 60 exhibitors will discuss job openings with job seekers and provide veteran information. People are encouraged to bring their résumé and dress to impress. Mature Driver Improvement
The Merced College Noncredit program is offering a Mature Driver Improvement class from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 25 at the college. Many insurance companies offer discounts to drivers 50 and older who complete this course. For more information, call 209-381-6540.
Johnny Cash tribute

Kaleidoscope dance exhibit
The Merced Dance Teachers Cooperative and Merced College plan the annual Kaleidoscope dance exhibition featuring seven dance troupes with two showings, at 2 and 7 p.m. Feb. 27 at Merced Theater, 3600 M St. Tickets are $10 for adults; $8 for students, seniors and children. ‘Inherit the Wind’
Tickets are on sale for a one-time performance of “Inherit the Wind” at 4 p.m. Feb. 28 in the historic courtroom of the Merced County Courthouse Museum, 21st and N streets. Merced College fitness lab
Merced College Fitness Lab membership is available for a one-month period from 5:30 to 7:30 a.m., Monday through Friday, March 1-31 at the 3600 M St. campus, Room GYM-5. Cost is $25 per person.
