Toy show at Elks Lodge

The Chaos Collectibles toy show will be 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Merced Elks Lodge, 1910 M St. The show has planned an appearance from Kathy Garver, who starred as Cissy in “Family Affair” in the late 1960s and voiced Firestar in the 1980s cartoon “Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends.” The entry fee is $5 for anyone older than 10. Dance and tango lessons

Dance and tango lessons are planned from 2 to 5 p.m. Feb. 28 at the Merced Senior Community Center, 755 W. 15th St. Dancers older than 18 are welcome, regardless of ability. The lessons from Frank and Maria Rivera begin at 1:15 p.m. and cost $8. For more, call 209-723-0849 or 209-628-8734.

Film series

Art classes

Beginning this month, Arbor Gallery will be hosting a two-hour painting class on the third Friday of each month. The February instructor is John Harrell at 6 p.m. Friday at the Multicultural Arts Center, 645 W. Main St. The class is limited to 20 participants, and the cost is $35. Genealogical Society guest

Stephen Morse, a professor, author and researcher, will present a case study to develop a family history at the Merced County Genealogical Society meeting at 1 p.m. Feb. 27 in the Gracey Room of the Merced County Library, 2100 O St. The meeting is open to all; no membership is required.

McSwain enrollment

McSwain School is accepting appointments for transitional kindergarten and kindergarten roundup, which will be 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. March 1 and 2 in the West Campus Library. Kindergarten children must be 5 on or before Sept. 1. Transitional kindergarten children must turn 5 between Sept. 2 and Dec. 2. Residents in the McSwain School District can call 209-354-2700 to make an appointment.

Track meet

Minds in Motion youth track club is taking sign-ups for an all-day meet March 12. The club is taking sign-ups in person from 6 to 7:30 p.m. through Thursday at the McCombs Youth Center, 615 W. 15th St. The club also will take registrations at the Merced Mall from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26 and March 4, as well as 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Feb. 27. Anyone can also sign up online at www.btgusa.org.

Native plants class

A UC Merced event will host instructors to present step-by-step methods of design, plant selection, lawn removal, rainwater harvesting and irrigation best practices to make the most out of every drop of water during a class from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 10 at UC Merced, 5200 N. Lake Road, in the California Room. The class is $25 for California Native Grassland Association members and $30 for nonmembers. To sign up, go to www.cnga.org.
