Animal rescue benefit

New Beginnings for Merced County Animals plans a fundraiser at Carl’s Jr. restaurants in Merced, Atwater and Los Banos onWednesday and Thursday. For every diner who mentions New Beginnings with any meal ordered on those days, Carl’s Jr. will donate a percentage of the sale to the animal rescue in Merced County. ‘Beauty and the Beast Jr.’

“Beauty and the Beast Jr.” will be performed by Weaver Performing Arts at 7 p.m. March 4, as well as shows at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. March 5, at the Merced Theatre, 301 W. Main St. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the Merced Theatre box office or at www.mercedtheatre.org/tickets.

Ribs fundraiser

The Livingston Lions are planning their annual rib sale fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 5 at the Livingston Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall, 1605 Seventh St., Livingston. Cost is $10 per person. For more information, call Jill at 209-489-7533.

Hunter safety

The city of Merced’s recreation department offers a Hunter Safety and Range Instruction class, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 19-20, May 21-22, and July 16-17. Cost is $15. Good Friday dinner

Club Mercedes plans a dinner from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Good Friday, March 25, at the club, 569 W. Ninth St. Cost is $12 per person. Meal is chile relleno, beans, rice, tortillas and salsa. Proceeds benefit the club’s scholarship fund and youth baseball. For more information, call the club after 3 p.m. at 209-383-9906.

Volleyball for kids

The city of Merced’s recreation department and the DuPont Volleyball Academy are taking registrations for a youth volleyball camp to be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. during spring break, March 28 through April 1. The camp offers classes for beginners in grades first through fourth to learn and improve their skills. The cost is $45. Registration deadline is March 18. Indoor soccer

The city of Merced’s recreation department and the Indoor Sports Center will offer indoor youth soccer on Saturdays, April 2 through May 21, for ages 3 through 10 at the center, 115 Heron Way. Cost is $45 plus an additional $10 for the uniform. Registration deadline is March 5. Register at Aguileras Satellites, 1033 W. Main St. For more information, call 209-385-6298.

‘Dancing for Birth’

Merced College Community Services plans several “Dancing for Birth” classes for pregnant women, new moms and newborns. Four different sessions are offered from February through June for classes that run from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Each session is $25.
