Spring veggies

A “Spring Vegetable Garden” class is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Merced Gardens and Nursery, 1007 Tahoe St. Presented by University of California Cooperative Extension master gardeners, the seminar is held in an event tent. MHS Class of 1966

Corned beef and cabbage

Ballico American Legion Post 668’s annual corned beef and cabbage dinner will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Saint Patrick’s Day, at the Legion Hall, 11303 Ballico Ave. The food typically sells out. Tickets are $10. For more, call 209-769-5625.

AARP in March

The March AARP meeting will be held at 10 a.m. March 23 at the Senior Center, 755 W. 15th St., Merced The program features music by the Bear Creek Ukulele Society. The center also plans a “Getting to Know You” segment. Complimentary refreshments will be served. All current members of AARP are urged to attend and bring a guest.

Miss Madera

Applications are available for the 2016 Chowchilla-Madera County Fair Pageant, which is to be held on May 18. There are three categories: Miss Madera County, Little Miss Madera County and the Tommyhawk Contest. Application packets are available at the Chowchilla Fairgrounds office, 1000 S. Third St., as well as online at www.Chowchillafair.org. They must be submitted by 5 p.m. March 29.

SPCA accepting used shoes

The Merced Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is asking for gently worn shoes through April 29. A fundraising group will make donations to the SPCA for every pair of shoes it collects and the shoes will go to another cause. Shoes can be left at the shelter, 1021 E. Childs Ave., or volunteers will pick them up. To arrange for a pickup, call the shelter at 209-384-7722, Florence at 209-723-2574 or Cathy at 209-726-3187.

Indoor soccer

The city of Merced’s recreation department and the Indoor Sports Center will offer indoor youth soccer on Saturdays, April 2-May 21, for ages 3-10 at the center, 115 Heron Way. Cost is $45 plus $10 for the uniform. Registration deadline is March 5. Register at Aguileras Satellites, 1033 W. Main St. Call 209-385-6298.

Match Day

UCSF Fresno Medical Education Program will celebrate Match Day with two events from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday at the UCSF Fresno Center for Medical Education and Research, 155 N. Fresno St. For more, call the center at 559-241-7512.

Tahiti Fete

The Kiki Raina Tahiti Fete begins at 5 p.m. Friday and continues the next two days at Golden Valley High School, 2121 E. Childs Ave. Tickets to the dancing and other activities are $15 in advance or $17 at the door for adults. Children’s tickets are $13 and $15. For more, go to www.kikiraina.com or call 209-383-1435.
