Grant application

The Wahnetta Hall Trust Fund, disbursed by Merced City Council, is taking applications for the $1,240 available this year for a program or concert in Applegate Park. The application deadline is the end of business Thursday. Free baseball clinic

The El Capitan High varsity baseball team plans a free baseball clinic for kids ages 7 to 13 from 9:30 to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the school’s baseball field, 100 Farmland Ave. Check-in is at 9 a.m. Players should bring a glove, hat, sneakers or cleats, and long pants. Genealogical Society meeting

The Merced County Genealogical Society will hear from Kathryn Marshall, director of the Lodi California Family History Center, at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Gracey Room of the Merced County Library, 2100 O St. Marshall will demonstrate software and websites that identify and map ancestral locations and other mapping tools. Membership is not required.

Hunter safety class

The city of Merced’s recreation department offers a Hunter Safety and Range Instruction class from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday; May 21-22; and July 16-17. Cost is $15. Merced Sunday dance

The Senior Community Center will host a dance from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the center, 755 W. 15th St. Music by We Three band. Anyone 18 and older is welcome. Cost is $8. For more information, call 209-723-0839 or 209-628-8734.

Good Friday dinner

Club Mercedes has set a dinner from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Good Friday, March 25, at the club, 569 W. Ninth St. Cost is $12 per person. Meal is chile rellenos, beans, rice, tortillas and salsa. Proceeds benefit the club’s scholarship fund and youth baseball. For more information, call the club after 3 p.m. at 209-383-9906.

Gospel concert

The Parks family from Branson, Mo., will perform Southern gospel music with a country flavor from 10 a.m. to noon March 27 at the Landmark Missionary Baptist Church, 1704 Merced Ave. For more information, call the church at 209-384-2319.

Chowchilla town hall

Chowchilla City Council plans a public town hall-style meeting 7 p.m. March 29 at Chowchilla Senior Center, 820 W. Robertson Blvd. The meeting will focus on planning for the city budget. Golf tourney

The Merced High School Baseball Dugout Club plans the seventh annual Grant Kuhr Memorial Golf Tournament at noon April 9 at Merced Golf and Country Club, 6333 Golf Road. Tee-off is 1 p.m. All proceeds go to the Merced High School Baseball Program. Registration fee is $125 and is due by April 1. For more information, call Kara Parle at 209-769-5272.

Free legal services

Central California Legal Services offers free legal advice and representation to eligible individuals in a variety of areas, including tenant rights; homeless issues; Social Security and SSI Disability Claims; and CalWorks, Medi-Cal, unemployment and CalFresh cases.
