Volleyball for kids

The city of Merced’s recreation department and the DuPont Volleyball Academy are taking registrations for a youth volleyball camp to be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. during spring break, March 28 through April 1. The camp offers classes for beginners in grades first through fourth to learn and improve their skills. The cost is $45. Registration deadline is Friday. Free baseball clinic

The El Capitan High varsity baseball team plans a free baseball clinic for ages 7 to 13 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the school’s baseball field, 100 Farmland Ave. Check-in is at 9 a.m. Players should bring a glove, hat, sneakers or cleats, and long pants. Festival entries

The Merced College Film Club is accepting entries for an upcoming festival. Films should be submitted via email to mercedcollegefilmclub@gmail.com, or a DVD can be mailed to professor William Baker, IAC 248, Stop 34, Merced College, 3600 M St., Merced, CA 95348. Habitat for Humanity

Merced’s Habitat for Humanity plans a volunteer orientation from 7 to 8 p.m. April 13 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church library, 2916 N. McKee Road. For more information or to reserve a spot, call 209-726-0850.

Rescue Mission dinner

The Merced County Rescue Mission plans its Oasis Benefit Dinner at 5:30 p.m. May 13 at Gateway Community Church, 353 E. Donna Drive. Tickets are $35, or $250 for a table of eight. For tickets, go to www.eventbrite.com.

LBHS reunion

The Los Banos High School Class of 1976 will hold its 40th class reunion Nov. 12 at M&M Restaurant in Los Banos. The festivities will begin the day before at the neighboring La Quinta. Calling Italians

The Merced County Historical Society and a committee from the Merced Italian Catholic Federation are looking for the community’s help to record family stories and obtain artifacts and photos to showcase how Italian Americans contributed to the growth and development of Merced County, which will be the focus of an exhibit at the Merced County Courthouse Museum in spring 2017. Those interested in contributing should call the museum at 209-723-2401 or email mercedmuseum@sbcglobal.net.

Applegate Zoo

The Applegate Zoo is open every day 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1045 W. 25th St. Entry is free for children younger than 5 and for Merced Zoological Society members.
