Animal carriers

New Beginnings of Merced needs medium- and large-size carriers for animals they transport to no-kill rescues each month. Used carriers in good condition that would be appropriate for animals in the 40- to 70-pound range are acceptable, as well as new carriers or monetary donations. Receipts can be provided for tax purposes. To donate a carrier, call 209-769-8953.

Sierra Club to meet

“Six Months in Patagonia at National Outdoor Leadership School” will be the topic of speaker Toby Osborne at the Sierra Club’s meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at Unity Church, 305 W. 26th St. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call 209-723-4747.

Los Banos Chamber mixer

The Los Banos Chamber of Commerce’s February mixer will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Los Banos Salvation Army offices, 1231 Fourth St. The meeting is in conjunction with Relay for Life. For more information, call the chamber at 209-826-2495.

Hispanic Chamber mixer

Relay for Life

Merced Relay for Life begins its 24-hour event at 9 a.m. Saturday on the Merced College track, 3600 M St. Cancer survivors are asked to report to the survivors tent on the 50-yard line of the football field and receive a free T-shirt and enter a raffle. Activities and booths for all ages are planned. Bicycle ride

The Merced City Director’s Ride will be at 10 a.m. Saturday beginning at Coffee Bandits, 309 W. Main St. Sign-ups for the 7.5-mile bike ride are from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Refreshments will be available at the halfway point of Rahilly Park and a free drawing for several bike-related prizes will occur at the end of the ride. Earth Day events at park

Merced’s Earth Day event is 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Applegate Park at 25th and R streets. It is a free family event taking place in front of Applegate Park Zoo. For more information, call 209-385-6978 or go to www.cityofmerced.org.

Jazz Day at UC

Mercy Lit Up! In Celebration of International Jazz Day 2016 features the Ernie Bucio Little Big Band at 7 p.m. April 29 at UC Merced’s Lakireddy Auditorium COB 102, 5200 N. Lake Road. Mother’s Day Mariachi

Castle benefit
