Relay for Life

Merced Relay for Life begins its 24-hour event at 9 a.m. Saturday on the Merced College track, 3600 M St. Cancer survivors are asked to report to the survivors tent on the 50-yard line of the football field and receive a free T-shirt and enter a raffle. Activities and booths for all ages are planned. The walk around the candlelit track to honor and support those affected by cancer is set for 7:30 p.m.

‘Carmina Burana’

Merced Symphony Association plans the “Carmina Burana” concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Merced Theatre, 301 W. Main St. Tickets are $39. For tickets, call 209-381-0500 or go to www.mercedtheatre.org.

Chess tourney

The UC Merced Chess Club plans its annual chess championship for faculty, staff, students and alumni called the 2016 UC Chess Championship from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Joseph Edward Gallo Recreation Center, which is toward the center of the 5200 N. Lake Road campus. Entry is free. Community members are invited to attend.

Bicycle ride

The Merced City Director’s Ride will be at 10 a.m. Saturday beginning at Coffee Bandits, 309 W. Main St. Sign-ups for the 7.5-mile bike ride are from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Refreshments will be available at the halfway point of Rahilly Park, and a free drawing for several bike-related prizes will occur at the end of the ride.

Menudo for sale

Club Mercedes will serve menudo from 8 a.m.-noon Sunday while supplies last at the club, 569 W. Ninth St. A baby bowl is $4, medium is $8 and large is $9. Quesadillas are $1.50 each. Price includes all the condiments, coffee, tortillas and pastry. The Bloody Marys are $5. For more, call the club at 209-383-9906.

NAACP meets

The Merced County NAACP Branch 1047 plans a general membership meeting 6:30 p.m. Monday in the Sam Pipes Room at Merced City Hall, 678 W. 18th St. The public is invited to attend. For more information, call 209-726-3236.

Filipino picnic

The Central Valley chapter of the Filipino American National Historical Society plans its 17th annual picnic 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on May 7 at St. Jude Thaddeus Roman Catholic Church school grounds, 330 Franci St. in Livingston. Filipino food and entertainment will be featured. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for students, $5 for children 8-12, free for 7 or younger. Tickets can be purchased at the door. Lunch will be served from noon-2:30 p.m.. For more, call 209-394-2331.

Livingston Museum

The Livingston Historical Museum plans an open house 1-4 p.m. May 15 at the museum, 604 Main St. in Livingston.
