Sewing for seniors
Merced College needlecrafts and sewing classes are planned for 3:30-5:30 p.m. Fridays through May 27 at Merced College Educational Center Building 5, which is near G Street and Community College Drive, and for 6:30-9:30 p.m. Tuesdays through May 24 at the Wilson Middle School library, 1209 Robertson Blvd. in Chowchilla. Karaoke and pizza
Merced LGBT Karaoke and Pizza Night will be 6-10 p.m. Friday at the LGBT Community Center, 1744 G St., Suite H. It’s $12 for adults, $10 for students and $4 for children younger than 8. Those younger than 2 get in free. Call 209-626-5551.
Livingston Waves
The Livingston Waves Swim Team will be enrolling 5- to 18-year-old swimmers through May 13 at City Hall, 1416 C St. in Livingston. The program begins practice in April and will run through the end of July. Participants must be able to swim the length of the pool without assistance. AARP meets
The April meeting of Chapter 282 of Merced AARP will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Senior Community Center, 755 W. 15th St. The meeting is part of the “getting to know you session” featuring Mike Samburg and Glenda Policast. Bring your dancing shoes for the program this month featuring country western music. Refreshments will be served.
Mature drivers
A mature-driver improvement class is planned for 8 a.m.-4 p.m. May 19 at Merced College Educational Center Building 5, which is near G Street and Community College Drive. Those who complete the course could get up to 10 percent off their auto insurance premium. Check with your insurance agent first. Course is free. Call 209-381-6540.
Community yard sale
Gospel Defenders Christian Academy is hosting a large yard sale free for any participating neighbors from 7:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. May 6 and 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m. May 7 at Gospel Defenders Church, 2909 N. CASA volunteers
Court Appointed Special Advocates of Merced County will begin training a new group of volunteers May 9. Volunteers advocate for the best interests of children who, through no fault of their own, have been abused and neglected and need a consistent adult in their lives.
