Film festival

The public is invited to view independent films during Merced College’s first Film Festival from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Friday in the Lesher 111 room of the college, 3600 M St. Sponsored by the Merced College Film Club, admission is free. The event will feature short films made by Merced College students and other shorts made by local filmmakers. At the end of the program, $700 in prizes will be awarded to the student winners. Ramp closure

A PG&E project on California Department of Transportation right-of-way will close the Atwater Boulevard off-ramp from southbound Highway 99 from 8 p.m.-1 a.m. May 3. Emergency services, if needed, will be allowed to use the exit; there will be crews on the ground, however, so please proceed with the utmost caution and make your presence known with the lights, sirens and/or horn. Atwater prayer

The city of Atwater’s National Day of Prayer event will be noon May 5 at City Hall, 750 Bellevue Road. Organizers invite people of all faiths to pray for the nation. For more information, call 209-357-6205.

Church potluck

Church Women United is planning its annual May Friendship Potluck Luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. May 6 at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 1455 E. Yosemite Ave. in Merced. Bring a dish to share. The theme is “Finding Grace at the Table.” Speakers are expected from Haven of Hope, Life Line, LOVE INC., Merced County Jail Ministry, Operation Share, Saving Grace Homeless project, WithOut Permission and Young Life. The luncheon is open to any adults.

Atwater gardens

The Atwater Garden Club will present its 37th annual Garden Tour from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 7 at gardens in the area. Tickets are $15 and a tour map is included. For tickets and more information, call 209-201-2804 or 209-777-3524.

Neuropathy support

The Merced peripheral neuropathy support group’s next meeting will be 1 to 2 p.m. May 12 at the Hoffmeister Center, 1920 Canal St. in Merced. If your toes and fingers and/or feet and hands tingle or feel numb you might have peripheral neuropathy. There will be a roundtable discussion and informative handouts will be available. FFA plants

The Atwater High School FFA is planning its annual Spring Plant Sale from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 13-14 at the Atwater High Agriculture Department on the 2201 Fruitland Ave. campus. For more information, go to www.AtwaterFFA.org. Proceeds support the school’s FFA and horticulture program.

Officers meeting

The National Association for Uniformed Services will be meeting at 10 a.m. May 14 at the Castle Air Museum banquet room, 5050 Santa Fe Drive in Atwater. The guest speaker will be Charles Wiley, a well-known lecturer, writer and media specialist. It is an election meeting. Look Good Feel Better

Look Good Feel Better, a free two-hour workshop for female cancer patients experiencing appearance-related side effects from their treatment, is held the second Monday of every month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mercy UC Davis Cancer Center, 3850 G St. in Merced. The next one is May 9. For more information, call 209-564-3600.
