Atwater prayer

The city of Atwater’s National Day of Prayer event is noon Thursday at City Hall, 750 Bellevue Road. Organizers invite people of all faiths to pray for the nation. For more, call 209-357-6205.

Church potluck

Church Women United plans its annual May Friendship Potluck Luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 1455 E. Yosemite Ave. in Merced. Bring a dish to share. The theme is “Finding Grace at the Table.” Speakers are expected from Haven of Hope, Life Line, Love Inc., Merced County Jail Ministry, Operation Share, Saving Grace Homeless project, WithOut Permission and Young Life. It is open to any adults.

Mother’s Day

The Odd Fellows of LaFayette Historical Lodge #65 plan a Mother’s Day breakfast 8-11 a.m. Sunday at the IOOF Hall in La Grange, 30018 Yosemite Blvd. Cost is $6 for anyone older than 12, $3 for children 7 to 12 and younger than 7 eat free. All-Star Baseball in Merced

The third annual Larry Nelson Junior High All-Star baseball game will be played at 7 p.m. Saturday at Merced High School. There will be a banquet for all coaches, players, family and friends starting at 5 p.m. The city team’s head coach is Cruickshank’s Paul Hayes. The team includes players from Cruickshank, Tenaya, Rivera and Hoover schools. The county team’s head coach is Weaver’s Anthony Martinez. Public reading

Paula Treick DeBoard, author of the novels “The Mourning Hours,” “The Fragile World” and “The Drowning Girls,” will give a reading 6 p.m. May 12 in the Wendell Olson Forum on the second floor of Merced College’s Learning Resources Center on the 3600 M St. campus. Neuropathy support

The Merced Peripheral Neuropathy Support Group’s next meeting is 1-2 p.m. May 12 at the Hoffmeister Center, 1920 Canal St., Merced. If your toes/fingers and or feet/hands tingle or feel numb you might have peripheral neuropathy. Roundtable discussion and informative hand-outs available. Literary review

Merced College’s literary journal, the Merced River Literary Review, is now available for purchase at the Merced College Bookstore. Dedicated to the late poet Francisco X. Alarcón, an instructor at UC Davis, the third volume costs $20 and features national and local writers and visual artists. A free public reading is scheduled for 6 p.m. May 13 at Bella Luna Restaurant, 350 W. Main St. in Merced.

FFA plants

The Atwater High School FFA plans its annual Spring Plant Sale from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. May 13-14 at the Ag Department of the 2201 Fruitland Ave. campus. For more information, go to www.AtwaterFFA.org. Proceeds support the school’s FFA and horticulture program.

NAUS meets

The National Association for Uniformed Services will be meeting 10 a.m. May 14 at the Castle Air Museum Banquet Room, 5050 Santa Fe Drive in Atwater.
