‘Wine to Win’ benefit for Dems

The Merced County Democratic Central Committee will host U.S. Rep. Jim Costa, D-Fresno, and California Assemblyman Adam Gray, D-Merced, at its “Wine to Win” fundraiser at 6 p.m. Saturday at the home of Greg and Kara Parle in Merced. It will feature an evening of varietal wines and appetizers. Semi-formal attire is requested. Tickets are $100 per person. For tickets, call Kara Parle at 209-769-5272.

Drought-tolerant landscaping

Uniformed services meeting

The National Association for Uniformed Services will be meeting 10 a.m. Saturday at the Castle Air Museum Banquet Room, 5050 Santa Fe Drive in Atwater. Baby Animal Shower

The Stanislaus Wildlife Care Center celebrates spring with its annual Baby Animal Shower from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the wildlife center inside Fox Grove Fishing Access, 1220 Geer Road in Hughson. There are games, cookies and punch, face painting, T-shirts for sale, and kids crafts. There is no admission charge, but the center does accept gifts of supplies. Basque Club Picnic

The 52nd Basque Club Picnic in Los Banos begins at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Los Banos Fairground, 403 F St. It begins with Mass, followed by lunch from 12:30-2 p.m., which includes lamb and sausage sandwiches. Music, vendors and contests are planned.

Country breakfast

The Country Breakfast & Village Store is 7:30 a.m. to noon on Sunday at the Livingston United Methodist Church, 11695 Olive Ave.. Ham and eggs, fruit, and a choice of pancakes or biscuits and gravy are $10 for adults and $5 for children 10 or younger. For more, call 209-394-2264. Advance tickets available.

Movie in the park

Merced’s Parks and Recreation Department plans to show “The Good Dinosaur” at dusk on May 20 in Applegate Park, 1045 W. 25th St. It is free to anyone. Organizers recommend bringing a blanket, chairs or something else for sitting. Sewing for seniors

A Merced College needlecrafts and sewing class is 6:30-9:30 p.m. every Tuesday through May 24 at Wilson Middle School Library, 1209 Robertson Blvd. in Chowchilla. It’s a free course for older adults. Call 209-381-6540.

La Grange arts
