Bobby Darin music

The June AARP meeting will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Merced Senior Community Center, 755 W. 15th St. This month includes performances of the music of Bobby Darin, who sang “Beyond the Sea,” “Dream Lover” and “Up the Lazy River,” to name a few. Complimentary refreshments will be served. All current members of AARP are urged to attend and bring a guest. Membership is not required. For more, email rayrhae@att.net.

Food bank boxes

Merced County Food Bank’s Drought Food Assistance Program is a free temporary program designed to provide assistance to people in Merced County. Those receiving a food box will be asked to self-certify that they live in a household where drought conditions have caused their underemployment, unemployment or reduced their income. People can receive the roughly 30-pound boxes of food up to two times a week. The Merced County Food Bank at 2000 W. Olive Ave. is open 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Friday. LGBT center

The Merced LGBT Community Center is a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community, along with family and friends, to congregate and find support and resources. Outdoor concerts

Chowchilla’s Sizzlin’ Summer Nights Music in the Park Concerts opens the 2016 season with singer-songwriter Brandon Pasion and his band. The country-rock music is set for 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Veterans Memorial Park, Roberston Boulevard and Sixth St., in Chowchilla. All performances in the six-week series are free through July 28. Movie in the park

The Merced Parks and Recreation Department will show “Goosebumps” at dusk on Friday at McNamara Park, 1040 Canal St. The event is free and open to the public. Staffers recommend viewers bring chairs, a blanket or something else to sit on. For more, call 209-385-6232.

Livingston’s Fourth

Livingston’s Fourth of July celebration is July 1-4 at the Max Foster Sports Complex, 2600 Walnut Ave. in Livingston. Carnival rides are offered all weekend and live music will be performed by Baby Bash, La Original Banda El Limon, Boston Rocks and other artists. Run in Atwater

The Run for Independence is set for 7:30 a.m. July 4 at Ralston Park in Atwater. Race distances are 2 or 5 miles. Walkers are welcome in the 2-mile race. Behavioral health
