DAR anniversary
The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is celebrating its 125th anniversary. To kick off the anniversary year, the Merced River chapter is hosting an open house 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Feb. 7 in the Gracey Room of the Merced County Library. The public is invited to enjoy light refreshments and learn about the group. There will be a short video presentation titled “Today’s DAR.” If you are descended from an ancestor who aided the American colonists during the American Revolution, you may qualify for membership. Buhach High crab feed
The Buhach High School Music Boosters will hold their 10th annual Crab Feast on Saturday at the Merced County Fairgrounds Pavilion Building. Social hour is 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.; auction is 7:30 to 8:45 p.m.; dancing is 9 p.m. until midnight. Tickets are $45 per person or $320 for a table of eight. Merced Camera Club meets

National Alliance on Mental Illness
Merced County’s branch of the National Alliance on Mental Illness holds biweekly support groups for families affected by serious mental illness. For more information, call (209) 381-6844 and a volunteer will contact you within 48 hours.
Sweetheart Gala
Members of the Merced, Atwater and Mariposa area chapters of Beta Sigma Phi will honor their Chapter Sweethearts at the 66th annual Sweetheart Gala. The gala will be held Feb. 14 at the Merced Golf and Country Club. Cocktail hour is at 6 p.m. with dinner at 7 p.m. and dancing following dinner. Tickets are $38. Uechi Ryu karate
Merced’s Recreation Department is offering Uechi Ryu karate classes on Mondays and Thursdays for $45 per month. Valentine’s Day play
Playhouse Merced is presenting the renowned play “Love Letters” on Feb. 14 at 7:30 p.m. featuring David and Holly Zacharias. The $25 charge includes dessert and champagne or cider. Tickets can be purchased at the box office, 452 W. Main St., or by calling (209) 725-8587.
Valentine’s Day Dance
Club Mercedes will hold its “Nothin’ But Love Valentine’s Day Dance” 6 p.m. Feb. 14 at 569 West 9th St. in Merced. Live music by “Force ’Em” from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Price is $10 per person. No host beverage and dinner bar available at an extra cost. Must be age 21 and over to attend. For tickets or information, call (209) 383-9906 after 4 p.m. Club Mercedes is a nonprofit organization. Proceeds will benefit a scholarships program.
