Street Faire

Merced Community Development Corp. will launch its summer Thursday Night Street Faire starting Thursday, featuring car shows, live music, vendors, games and food. The fair will be at Bob Hart Square from 5 to 10 p.m. Proceeds support local youth groups. For more information, call 209-500-7773.

Food bank boxes

Merced County Food Bank’s Drought Food Assistance Program is a free temporary program designed to provide assistance to people in the county. Those receiving a food box will be asked to self-certify that they live in a household where drought conditions have caused their underemployment, unemployment or reduced their income. People can receive the roughly 30-pound boxes of food up to two times a week. The Merced County Food Bank, at 2000 W. Olive Ave., is open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Friday. LGBT center

The Merced LGBT Community Center is a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community, along with family and friends, to congregate and find support and resources. Summer classes

Merced College’s noncredit program has begun its summer class offerings in more than a dozen locations in Merced County. Aimed at adults, the classes offered include needlecraft and sewing, beginning quilting, music therapy, bus driver training, medical assistant, mature driver improvement, and career and life planning. The Sierra Artists’ Gallery of Mariposa is calling on photographers from the Central Valley and Sierra to submit work to the Photography Fest and Sale. Music therapy

Merced College offers a noncredit class of “Music Therapy for Older Adults” from 7-9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays through July 14 in Music Building Room 2 at the college, 3600 M St. The course is free. For more, call 209-381-6541.

Extreme Registration

Students looking for one-stop shopping for college classes can go to Extreme Registration events at 9 a.m. Aug. 6 at the Merced College main campus, 3600 M St., or the Los Banos campus, 22240 Highway 152. Prospective students will be able to meet with counselors, attend academic planning workshops, go through assessment, select classes, and purchase textbooks and parking passes. Merced College will provide lunch and beverages for all participants. For more, call 209-384-6000.
