MID fireworks

Merced Irrigation District’s Lights on the Lake display is set for dusk or about 9 p.m. Saturday at Lake McClure, and the spots for watching at McClure Point will open to the public at 5 p.m. The cost is $20 per vehicle to enter Lake McClure through the kiosk at 9090 Lake McClure Road in Snelling. Livingston’s Fourth

Livingston’s Fourth of July celebration continues through Monday at the Max Foster Sports Complex, 2600 Walnut Ave. in Livingston. Carnival rides are offered all weekend and live music is set from Baby Bash, La Original Banda El Limon, Boston Rocks and other artists. Run in Atwater

The Run for Independence is 7:30 a.m. Monday at Ralston Park in Atwater. Race distances are 2 or 5 miles. Walkers are welcome in the 2-mile race. Military Appreciation Day

Castle Air Museum in Atwater will host Military Appreciation Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 9 at the museum, 5050 Santa Fe Drive. Admission will be $12 for adults; $8 for seniors 60 and up; and $5 for youth with regular paid adult or senior admission. Active military with ID and veterans get in free. Sierra Artists' Gallery of Mariposa is calling on photographers from the Central Valley and Sierras to submit work to the Photography Fest and Sale. ESL for adults

Merced College is offering free English as a second language classes for adults in three locations within the district. Beginning and intermediate level classes will continue through July 28 and students may register anytime in class. Merced College’s Business Resource Center, 630 W. 19th St., offers classes from 6 to 9 p.m. Mondays through Wednesdays; free parking available. Classes are also from 6 to 8 p.m. every Tuesday through Thursday in Building A, Room 105, at the Los Banos Campus, 22240 Highway 152; parking permit required. The Chowchilla Alternative Education Center, 445 Trinity Ave., has classes from 9 a.m. to noon every Monday through Thursday. For more information, call 209-381-6542.

LGBT center

The Merced LGBT Community Center is a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community, along with family and friends, to congregate and find support and resources.
