Downtown art exhibit
Mariposa Art Company will host “Love Reigns,” an art exhibition by Eddie and Jes Garcia. Opening night is Saturday from 7 p.m. until close at 1637 M St., Merced. Free. Lobster Fest
Atwater Rotary’s 11th annual Lobster Fest will be 6 p.m. Saturday at the Atwater APC Hall Hall at Third and Elm Streets. Tickets are $50 and must be purchased in advance. The door prize is $1,000 in cash. Raffle tickets for 50 great prizes are $1. Tickets are available from Atwater Rotarians, or from Roger Wood at (209) 358-7343 or roger95301@att.net.
Historical Society meeting
The Merced County Historical Society will hold its annual membership meeting at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Merced County Board of Supervisors chambers at the County Administration Building, 2222 M St. Officers will be installed, and several awards will be presented. This year’s keynote speaker is San Joaquin Valley historian and author William B. Secrest Jr. The meeting is free.
Valentine’s social
The Livingston United Methodist Church will hold its annual Valentine’s social potluck at noon Sunday in the Pioneer Hall. Everyone is invited. Bring your favorite soup, bread or side dish to share. Sweetheart Gala
Members of the Merced, Atwater and Mariposa area chapters of Beta Sigma Phi will be holding their 66th annual Sweetheart Gala on Feb. 14 at the Merced Golf and Country Club. Cocktail hour is at 6 p.m. with dinner at 7 p.m. and dancing afterward. Tickets are $38. For more information, call Ruth at (209) 723-1169.
Singing telegrams
The Golden Valley Chorus will present “Singing Valengrams” in Merced, Modesto and other local communities. For $40, a barbershop quartet will sing a love song to your sweetheart. Dance lessons
The South Pacific Dance Company is teaching traditional dance and music from the cultures of Hawaii and Tahiti. Enrollment is being accepted for the spring semester, ages 4 through adult, beginners and advanced. Males and females are welcome. Classes are at Creation Station, 2408 Martin Luther King Jr. Way. In addition, the Soul Power Dance Crew is taking enrollment for an eight-week session in hip-hop dance for ages 7 through teens.
