Excellence in Business
The Merced Sun-Star is now accepting nominations for its second annual Excellence in Business awards. Nominate your candidates for being “Excellent in Business” at www.mercedsunstar.com/nomination. President search
The Merced College Committee overseeing the search for its next college president plans public input meetings throughout July. The first one is 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Rivera Middle School, Multi-Purpose Room, 945 Buena Vista Drive, Merced. Craft fair
Due to popular demand, the La Grange Odd Fellows of Lafayette Historical Lodge No. 65 plans a second crafts fair, which will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the IOOF Hall, 30018 Yosemite Blvd. in La Grange. Soccer tryouts
The San Joaquin Valley Soccer Academy holds boys tryouts starting on Monday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Players should arrive early to fill out waiver and have proper gear. Tryouts will run Monday through Wednesday and July 25, 26 and 28 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at McNamara Park, 01040 Canal St.
Bible school
Vacation Bible School from the Joy of Harvest Hmong Outreach Ministries and Children’s Outreach Ministries will be held 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. July 25 to 29 in Applegate Park, 1045 W. 25th St., near the outdoor stage. “Who is God?” is the theme of the free event aimed at children in first through sixth grades. Legal services
Central California Legal Services staff would like to remind Merced County residents of the different services and legal advice provided: tenant rights and homeless issues; Social Security and SSI disability cases; senior citizen legal issues; public benefit issues such as food stamps, CalWorks, unemployment, Medi-Cal and health care concerns; and other civil law matters. Free venue
The Pacheco Village and Pacheco Court Apartments offer free venue rentals. There is meeting space for up to 60 people, and community rooms with kitchens are available for local organizations, churches and nonprofit agencies to use for meetings and activities. Catfish dinner
The ninth annual Odd Fellows Catfish Dinner and Raffle is 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 6 at the IOOF Hall, 30018 Yosemite Blvd. at La Grange. Cost is $12 for adults. Dinner and raffle tickets are available by calling 209-853-2128.
