Parent Cafe

President search

The Merced College committee overseeing the search for its next college president plans public input meetings throughout July. The next meeting is 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday at Cruickshank Middle School, Multi-Purpose Room, 601 Mercy Ave., Merced. Soccer tryouts

The San Joaquin Valley Soccer Academy will hold boys tryouts from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. starting Monday. Players should have proper gear and arrive early to fill out a waiver. Tryouts will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and July 25, 26 and 28 at McNamara Park, 1040 Canal St.

Quilters meet

Gateway Quilters Guild will meet at 7 p.m. on the third Monday of the month at the Merced Department of Public Health, 260 E. 15th St. The “Christmas in July” meeting will be making Christmas ornaments for its tree at the Merced County Courthouse Museum in December. Bible school

Vacation Bible School from the Joy of Harvest Hmong Outreach Ministries and Children’s Outreach Ministries will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. July 25-29 in Applegate Park, 1045 W. 25th St., near the outdoor stage. “Who is God?” is the theme of the free event aimed at children in first through sixth grades. Free oil filter

The Merced County Regional Waste Management Authority will offer a free oil filter exchange event throughout Merced County in which residents can take a used oil filter to any AutoZone or O’Reilly Auto Parts store in Merced County and receive a new filter for free on any Saturday or Sunday in July. Sunday dance

The Martin Martinez Group will play from 2 to 5 p.m. July 24 at the Merced Senior Community Center, 755 W. 15th St. Doors will open at 1:30 p.m. Cost is $8. Refreshments will be available. For more, call 209-723-0839 or 209-628-8734.

Gospel concert

The next installment of the Julie-N-Friends gospel concert series is 6 p.m. July 31 at the Christian Life Center, 650 E. Olive Ave., Merced. The lineup includes the Evidence Quartet of Yorba Linda, Reliance of Fresno, Dennis Curtsinger of Visalia and Bridge of Grace of Merced. Admission is free, but an offering will be taken.
