Sweetheart Gala planned
Members of the Merced, Atwater and Mariposa area chapters of Beta Sigma Phi will be holding their 66th annual Sweetheart Gala on Feb. 14 at the Merced Golf and Country Club, 6333 Golf Road. Historical group to meet
The Merced County Historical Society will hold its annual membership meeting at 2 p.m. Sunday inside the Merced County Board of Supervisors chambers at the County Administration Building, 2222 M St. Officers will be installed during the meeting, and several awards will be presented. This year’s keynote speaker is San Joaquin Valley historian and author William B. Secrest Jr. The meeting is free and open to the public.
Buy a singing telegram
The Golden Valley Chorus is offering singing “Valengrams“ in Merced, Modesto and other local communities. For $40 you can request a barbershop quartet to sing a love song to your sweetheart. Downtown art exhibit
Mariposa Art Company will host “Love Reigns,” an art exhibition by Eddie and Jes Garcia. Opening night is Saturday starting at 7 p.m. at 1637 M St., Merced. Free admission. Lobster Fest coming
Atwater Rotary’s 11th annual Lobster Fest will be 6 p.m. Saturday at the Atwater APC Hall at Third and Elm streets. Tickets are $50 and must be purchased in advance. The door prize is $1,000 cash. Thinkers group to meet

Drivers sought for vets
Disabled American Veterans is looking for men and women to be volunteer drivers for veterans. Volunteering ensures that even those living far from VA hospitals can make their appointments and not go without the treatment they need. DAV provides a van and fuel. Call (559) 225-6100, ext. 6907.
