Welcome Week

Merced College’s fall semester begins with “Welcome Week” on Monday and Tuesday. Six tables will have information for students, including class schedules, classroom locations, add/drop forms, and other basic information. For more on enrolling in classes, call 209-384-6000 or visit www.mccd.edu.

Network mixer

A networking mixer is set for 8-10 a.m. Aug. 25 at Pacifica Senior Living, 3420 R St., Merced. No membership required. For more, call 209-384-9700.

Transfer Day

Merced College plans to hold Transfer Day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and College Night from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Sept. 1 at the college, 3600 M St. State four-year colleges and universities will be on site. Transfer Day will be held on the campus quad, and College Night in the gym. A special session on financial aid is set for 6 p.m. For more, call the Merced College Transfer Center at 209-384-6239.

Neuropathy group

The Merced Peripheral Neuropathy Support Group’s next meeting is 1 p.m. Sept. 8 at the Hoffmeister Center, 1920 Canal St., in Merced. There is no meeting in July or August. For more, call Bill Cavner at 209-723-9405 or Larry Frice at 209-358-2045.

Bloss BBQ

The Atwater Historical Society is planning the third annual Mr. Bloss’ barbecue and installation of officers dinner at 7 p.m. Sept. 10 at the grounds of the Bloss home, 1020 Cedar Ave., Atwater. The social hour is at 6 p.m. All proceeds will go to the Bloss Home Restoration Fund. Tickets are limited, so please call for them by Aug. 29. LGBT center

The Merced LGBT Community Center is a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community, family and friends to congregate, find support and resources. Fish stocked

The state Department of Fish and Wildlife stocked about 10,000 pounds of fish in Lake McSwain and in the Merced River just downstream from Lake McSwain in Merced County last week. The catchable-sized rainbow trout came from the Mojave Fish Hatchery in Victorville. A state fishing license is required for everyone 16 or older and each angler is allowed to catch five of these fish per day. Legal services

Central California Legal Services staff members would like to remind Merced County residents of the services and legal advice provided: tenant rights and homeless issues; social security and SSI disability cases; senior citizen legal issues; public benefit issues such as food stamps, CalWorks, unemployment, Medi-Cal and health care concerns; and other civil law matters.
