Nonprofit dinner
Helping One Woman, a nonprofit that meets monthly to raise money for one local woman, has set its next dinner for 6-7 p.m. Wednesday at Bella Luna Bistro and Bar, 350 W. Main St., Merced. Autism support
Challenged Family Resource Center plans an autism support group for families who have a child or adult who has autism, from 5-6:30 p.m. every third Thursday of the month at the Challenged office, 827 W. 20th St., Merced. For more, stop by or call 209-384-0119.
Merced Pride
Merced LGBT Community Center plans Merced Pride from 1-4 p.m. Sunday near the amphitheater at Applegate Park, 1045 W. 25th St., Merced. Children’s golf
The First Tee Central Valley Merced, a program for children 5 to 17, will begin a new nine-week session at 5:45 p.m. Aug. 23 at Merced Golf and Country Club, 6333 N. Golf Road, Merced. Sunday classes are at 1 p.m. Scholarships are available. For more, call Nancy Slater, 209-777-7965.
Play dates

Free movie
The next wave of free movies in the park in Merced begins with “Pokémon” at dusk Aug. 26 at Applegate Park’s outdoor amphitheater, near the intersection of West 26th and O streets. The movies play about every two weeks in different parks through the end of October. For more, call 209-385-6232.
Bloss BBQ
The Atwater Historical Society plans the third annual Mr. Bloss’ barbecue and installation of officers dinner at 7 p.m. Sept. 10 at the grounds of the Bloss home, 1020 Cedar Ave., Atwater. Golf tourney
The Merced Elks Lodge will hold a charity golf tournament beginning at 9 a.m. Sept. 17 at Rancho Del Rey Golf Course, 5250 Green Sands Ave., Atwater. Check-in time is 8 a.m. with lunch included. There will be raffle prizes, team prizes and closest-to-the-hole prizes. Cost is $75, which includes greens fees and a cart. Proceeds are to benefit the Children’s Tumor Foundation.
