Youth Council to meet
The Merced Youth Council will meet at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Sam Pipes Room of City Hall, 678 W. 18th St. The topic are an urban art project, and an open gym night and other exercise plans for young women. Vintage toy show
The Vintage Toy and Collectible Show is 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Merced Elks Lodge, 1910 M St. Admission $10 before 11 a.m. and $5 afterward. Children 10 and under are free. For show and dealer information, call (209) 722-6740. Food and drinks available for purchase.
Republican Women meeting
The Merced County Republican Women will meet at 11:30 a.m. Monday at the Branding Iron, 640 W. 16th St. Lunch is at noon. If you plan to have lunch, call (209) 812-4398 by Thursday. Freshmen orientation
Merced High School will have orientation for incoming freshman at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 17 in the gym. All incoming freshmen should attend to find out about transitioning to high school. Coaches, teachers, club advisers and counselors will be on hand to answer questions. This is the first opportunity to turn in course requests and registration forms. Merced Garden Club
The Merced Garden Club’s monthly meeting is 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Fish and Game Building at Lake Yosemite. The topic for discussion is “Wreaths and Bow, Valentines.” Those interested in gardening and joining the club are encouraged to attend. Horse sanctuary
Wayward Ponies’ Home is a small equine sanctuary in Catheys Valley. Its sixth annual open house is 2 p.m. Feb. 21. Admission, refreshments, children’s activities and one raffle ticket for a gate prize are free. There will also be a $20 potluck-style raffle, in which each ticket buyer is guaranteed a pot full of prizes worth $50 or more. The sanctuary needs tax-deductible donations of new, prize-worthy items or gift certificates.
