Sunday Dance

NAMI classes

Merced County’s affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness offers free Family-to-Family Education weekly classes beginning Sept. 1 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Merced County’s Mental Health Department building, 480 E. 13th St. It’s a 12-week course. Junior Leadership

The Greater Merced Chamber of Commerce is accepting applications for Junior Leadership Merced, a program open to high school juniors and seniors. The program provides leadership skills, local business tours, local government official meetings and information on the community. Golf for All Ages

Western BBQ

The Merced County Historical Society will host its 26th annual Bill Kirby’s Western BBQ and Auction, an old-time barbecue in memory of Bill Kirby, at 5 p.m. Sept. 13 at Lake Yosemite. Organizers ask diners to buy tickets ahead of time. There will be live and silent auctions. Tickets cost $50 and are on sale in the Courthouse Museum Gift Shop, at N and 21st streets in Merced. Live music will be performed by the Evening Edition Jazz Combo. For more, call the museum at 209-723-2401. Proceeds benefit museum programs and the Bill and Tom Kirby Agricultural Scholarship at Merced College.

Sierra Art Trails

The Sierra Art Trails open studio tour will be Sept. 30 through Oct. 2 throughout more than a dozen Yosemite-area communities of eastern Madera and Mariposa counties. Fish stocked

The state Department of Fish and Wildlife stocked about 10,000 pounds of fish in Lake McSwain and in the Merced River just downstream from Lake McSwain in Merced County last week. The catchable-sized rainbow trout came from the Mojave Fish Hatchery in Victorville. A state fishing license is required for everyone 16 or older and each angler is allowed to catch five of these fish per day. Refs needed

The city of Livingston will begin its annual Youth Soccer season and is looking for referees. Refs must be 15 or older, have knowledge of soccer’s rules and have played at least two years. Those interested can pick up an application at City Hall, 1416 C St., Livingston, or go to www.livingstoncity.com. The Recreation Department will provide training.
