Resource fair
A community resources fair is planned by Sparrows Nest Rescue Mission, a faith-based nonprofit that works with foster youth and homeless young adults, from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday at Applegate Park, 1040 25th St. Planned are a showing of “Dolphin Tale,” a free raffle and several vendors. Dinner and gospel
The Potter’s Place Inc. will hold a fundraiser at 5 p.m. Saturday at 644 W. Main St. A buffet-style meal of spaghetti, meat sauce, salad, bread, dessert and drinks will accompany a gospel concert from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $20 at the door. For more, call 209-384-9547.
Merced Pride
The Merced LGBT Community Center plans Merced Pride from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday near the amphitheater at Applegate Park, 1045 W. 25th St., Merced. Lane closed
The Merced City School District plans a road closure in front of Cruickshank Middle School on Mercy Avenue from Monday through Wednesday. Eastbound traffic on Mercy Avenue will be closed from Mansionette Drive to Paulson Road, and a detour will send drivers to Yosemite Avenue and around to the westbound lane of Mercy. The district asks drivers to reduce speeds and prepare for delays related to the closure. For more, call 209-385-6330.
CASA volunteers
Patelco Employees recently donated $1,760 to Merced County’s Court Appointed Special Advocates, a group that works with foster children in the court system. CASA is also looking for volunteers, who must complete 30 hours of training and 10 hours of court observation. The average CASA volunteer spends eight to 10 hours a month on a case. Street Faire
The Merced Downtown Street Faire will continue from 5 to 10 p.m. Thursdays on Main Street between K and M streets. Food, games, shopping and other entertainment is planned. For more, go to www.facebook.com/merceddowntownstreetfaire.
Youth Center
The McNamara Youth Center in the park is open for drop-in activities from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday at the park, 1040 Canal St. For more, call 209-385-6235.
Swim class
Merced College Community Services is offering lap swim classes from 5:30 to 6:30 a.m., noon to 1 p.m., and 5 to 6 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from Sept. 2 through Oct. 31. The cost is $40 per person. For more, call 209-384-6224 or email communitysvc@mccd.edu.
Job fair
The Veterans Job and Information Fair will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 29 at the American Legion Hall, 939 West Main St., Merced.
