Sunday dance

Leadership class
The Greater Merced Chamber of Commerce and Merced College Emerging Leaders Institute will kick off a new round of workshops beginning with “Employee Engagement: Improve Performance, Productivity and Retention” from 8 a.m.to noon and repeated from 1 to 5 p.m. Sept. 1 and 8. It’ll be offered again from 1 to 5 p.m. Sept 7 and 14. The workshop is $23 and worth a half-unit of college credit. 1996 reunion

Mature drivers
Merced College’s Los Banos campus has set an eight-hour “Mature Driver Improvement” course for Oct. 10 at the Los Banos campus, 22240 Highway 152. The class is designed for people 55 or older, and some insurance companies offer a discount for people who take the class. To reserve a spot, call 209-381-6540.
Refs needed
The city of Livingston will begin its annual Youth Soccer Season and is looking for referees. Refs must be 15 or older, have knowledge of soccer’s rules and have played at least two years. Applications are available at City Hall, 1416 C St., Livingston, or at www.livingstoncity.com. The Recreation Department will provide training. Neuropathy group

Food bank boxes
The Merced County Food Bank’s Drought Food Assistance Program is a free temporary program designed to provide assistance to people in Merced County. Those receiving a food box will be asked to self-certify that they live in a household where drought conditions have caused their underemployment or unemployment, or reduced their income. People can receive the roughly 30-pound boxes of food up to two times a week. The food bank, 2000 W. Olive Ave., is open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Friday. Golf tourney
The Merced Elks Lodge will hold a charity golf tournament beginning at 9 a.m. Sept. 17 at Rancho Del Rey Golf Course, 5250 Green Sands Ave., Atwater. Check-in time is 8 a.m., and lunch will be included. There will be raffle prizes, team prizes and closest-to-the-hole prizes. Cost is $75, which includes green fees and a cart.
