Karaoke
Atwater’s Veterans Hall will host Karaoke at the Hall 7-10 p.m. Friday at 1390 Broadway Ave., Atwater. Sloppy joes and salad will be served 6-7:30 p.m. Dancing begins at 7. This event is open to the public and is free. Call the hall at 209-358-7224.
Water polo
Junior Blue Devil Beginning Water Polo, for those 14 or younger, is for students who have never played water polo. The class will cover basic fundamentals and prepare students for advanced water polo and playing with the year-round club team. Patriot Day
The city of Atwater’s annual Patriot Day and National Day of Service and remembrance event is 6 p.m. Sept. 11 at City Hall, 750 Bellevue Road, Atwater.
Human trafficking
Church Women United plans Human Rights Celebration 3-5 p.m. Sept. 11 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2916 N. McKee Road, Merced. The theme is “Experiencing Blessings at the Table,” and the Merced Police Department will be sharing their efforts to identify human trafficking in the community. Light refreshments will be served. Western barbecue
Merced County Historical Society will host its 26th annual Old-time Western Barbecue in memory of Bill Kirby at 5 p.m. Sept. 13 at Lake Yosemite. Organizers ask diners to buy tickets ahead of time. There will be both a live and silent auction. Tickets cost $50 and are on sale in the Courthouse Museum Gift Shop, at the corner of N and 21st streets in Merced. VFW breakfast
Breakfast is served 8-11 a.m. on the first Sunday of each month at the Veterans Hall, 1390 Broadway Ave., Atwater. The menu is varied and cooked to order, including omelets with hash browns and biscuit for $7, two eggs cooked to order with hash browns, sausage or bacon and a biscuit. A Belgium waffle with strawberries and cream, bacon or sausage is $4. Two biscuits with sausage gravy is $3. All breakfasts include juice and coffee. Call the hall at 209-358-7224.

Hunting/fishing show
The Sportsman’s Club plans a hunting and fishing collectibles show 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 30 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 1 at the club, 13989 Mercey Springs Road, Los Banos. Antique duck decoys, rod, reels, tackle, lures, vintage hunting and fishing, wildlife and sporting art, and other related items are planned. Admission is $5, and children 12 or younger get in free. Indian tacos
Atwater’s Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 9946 plans to serve Indian tacos 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Veterans Hall, 1390 Broadway Ave., Atwater. The handmade fry bread topped with beef, beans, cheese, tomato, lettuce and sour cream is $8. Takeout is available. Tickets are available at the Veterans Hall or by calling 209-658-6436. Proceeds fund the auxiliary and veterans programs.
