Sweetheart Gala
Members of the Merced, Atwater and Mariposa area chapters of Beta Sigma Phi will honor their respective Chapter Sweethearts at the 66th annual Sweetheart Gala. The Gala will be held Saturday at the Merced Golf and Country Club. Cocktail hour is at 6 p.m. with dinner at 7 and dancing afterward. Tickets are $38. Valentine’s Day play
Playhouse Merced is presenting the renowned play “Love Letters” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday featuring David and Holly Zacharias. The $25 charge includes dessert and champagne or cider. Tickets can be purchased at the box office, 452 W. Main St., or by calling (209) 725-8587.
Valentine’s Day Dance
Club Mercedes will hold its “Nothin’ But Love Valentine’s Day Dance” at 6 p.m. Saturday at 569 W. Ninth Street. Live music by “Force ‘Em” from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Price is $10 per person. No host beverage and dinner bar available at an extra cost. Must be age 21 and over to attend. For tickets or information call (209) 383-9906 after 4 p.m. Club Mercedes is a non profit organization. Proceeds will benefit a scholarships program.
Singing telegrams
The Golden Valley Chorus will present Singing Valengrams in Merced, Modesto and other local communities. For $40, a barbershop quartet will sing a love song to someone’s sweetheart. Dog obedience class
A dog obedience class will be be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Applegate Park. The six-week class will teach basic obedience such as sit, down, stay and come when called, along with a Canine Good Citizen Class. The cost is $70; if the dog came from a rescue or shelter, it’s $50. For more information, call (209) 631-0484.
Franklin-Beachwood MAC meeting
The Franklin-Beachwood Municipal Advisory Council will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 25 at Franklin Elementary School, 2936 Franklin Road, Room 21. Marjie Kirn will give a presentation on the Atwater/Merced Expressway. For more information, call Dennis Haines at (209) 381-5981.
Town hall meetings
Supervisor John Pedrozo will hold town hall meetings at 6:30 p.m Thursday at the Livingston City Council chamber, 1416 C St. in Livingston, and at 6:30 p.m Feb. 25 in the multipurpose room of Tenaya Middle School, 760 W. Eighth St., Merced. Pedrozo said he has coordinated the participation of several Merced County department heads who will be on hand to answer questions or respond to concerns raised by the public.
