Michelle Oliver: Spring’s the best time to let bright colors pop
Spring always makes me think of bright colors, cooler clothes and the smell of flowers. Oh, also allergies, but that’s not important for this article.
This is one of my absolute favorite seasons to dress for. I feel like I can be more playful with my mix of dark and light colors. During winter I tend to stay away from wearing too many bright colors because I don’t want to blind people when they see me.
During spring, it is game on. I don’t think twice before walking out of the house wearing a bright coral or purple dress. It’s the best.
Typically I purge my closet right before spring so I can make room for more fun and colorful pieces. I pack away the dark clothes and scarves and bust out the strappy heels and dresses. I would recommend leaving a few transitional pieces in your closet though. You never know what the weather will be like lately.
I tend to leave my cardigans and light jackets out, then pack away all my heavier coats and jackets. When it comes to shoes, I wear a mixture of closed-toe and open-toe shoes all year long. Therefore, they all stay out where I can see them.
For today’s outfit, I decided to share one of my favorites that I wore a few weeks ago. It was great for a light breeze, but still cool enough that I didn’t get hot once it warmed up later in the day.
I took an oversized yellow shirt and added a brown scarf. I won’t lie, I kind of felt like a banana but when in doubt, roll with it and you’ll love the outcome. I wanted to keep it cool, so I threw on a pair of denim capris, which only reaffirmed my vision.
Don’t forget a pair of gray booties and an oversize purse and then you’re set. I accomplished the exact look I wanted and was ready for a day of shopping. This was the first time I had paired my denim capris with my gray booties, yes I know, even fashion bloggers can be behind on some trends.
I am so glad I finally created this look. It was perfect for a day of shopping and running errands. Let’s say you’re not a huge fan of oversized shirts. Trust me it took a while for me to hop on that bandwagon too. However, you can add a long fitted shirt and achieve the same look.
Want a few more ideas for spring?
The possibilities are endless. You can mix and match dresses with booties, sandals and heels. Take a pair of mint-colored capris, add a pair of sandals, a white blouse and jean jacket and you’re ready for a day out or a night on the town.
Other great ideas involve floral prints, patterns and tons of stripes. Hope you all have a great weekend. As always you can reach out with any questions about fashion and beauty. I’d be happy to answer them.
