Michelle Oliver: Wearing white after Labor Day isn’t taboo anymore

Think twice before you pack away your white clothing items this fall. If you wear white correctly, it will be just as fashionable as any color no matter what time of year it is.

It wasn’t long ago when wearing white after Labor Day was considered taboo. I’m not entirely sure why that’s a fashion rule, to be honest.

White has become a staple to almost every woman’s closet and for good reason – it can be paired with everything. Over the past couple of months, I have amped up my closet to accommodate plenty of white pieces. That being said, I don’t plan to stop wearing white because Labor Day has come and gone.

So I have pulled together a few great ways to wear white year round.

My absolute favorite way to wear white is with white denim pants. As you can see in the picture shown with my column, I love to style a pair of white denim cropped pants with high heels.

I found these denim cropped pants at Target for a reasonable price. They are the perfect length to complement a pair of heels or a cute pair of flats. In the outfit shown I added a blue shirt and a black cross-body bag.

This outfit is perfect to wear while the weather is transitioning into fall. It’s lightweight, consists of soft colors and is not too bold. This is perfect to wear for a day of shopping or a party. If you want to make it more professional, switch out the denim cropped pants for dressier white capri pants and you are set.

Another great way to wear white is by donning a white jacket. Zippers and moto jackets are in right now, and I can never turn down a white moto jacket. I love how this type of jacket can add a little edge to your outfit.

Typically, I’ll pair my white moto jacket with some black pencil pants and a colorful blouse. I add in some heels to give it that extra dose of pretty.

If you want to find the perfect moto jacket for you, I suggest going to Google and searching for one available at store near you. There are plenty of shapes and styles out there and dressing to your body type is always a must.

Another favorite way to wear white for me is by putting on an oversized sweater. Although it is hard to imagine wearing a sweater right now given our weather, it is important to think about cooler times ahead, and the oversized sweater is a great casual option for sporting white after Labor Day.

There are quite a few ways to style an oversized sweater right now. I love to wear one with a pair of black leggings and a pair of tan knee-high boots. This adds some variety in color to your outfit.

During fall I tend to live in this outfit because it is so comfy. As always I will add a long necklace and some bangles to keep it stylish.

My advice would be to think twice before you pack away your white items this fall. If you wear white correctly, you’ll be as fashionable as anyone. Feel free to reach out to me with any questions.
