Support group to address traveling for the visually impaired
The Center of Vision Enhancement’s low vision support group will meet this Thursday to discuss travel tips for the visually impaired.
The support group meets every second Thursday of the month. This week’s presenter will be Emily Simone, an Orientation and Mobility Trainer. According to COVE’s director Margaret Duchmann-Garcia, Simone will offer advice on how to get from point A to point B when eyesight complications impede driving. Thursday’s meeting will also focus on how to plan ahead when traveling by air by letting airlines know about the need for assistance once arriving to the airport. Transportation by train will also be discussed.
Duchmann-Garcia said the bi-monthly meetings are designed so that people can meet with others “on the same boat.”
The group will meet from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Carrow’s Restaurant, 720 Motel Drive in Merced. The event is open to everyone.
