Royal Caribbean gives parents a new way to track kids at sea

As a mom who has taken several cruises with my school-aged kids over the last few years, I've come to appreciate any tool that makes it a little easier to relax while my son and daughter are having their own fun somewhere else on the ship.

That's why I've had my eye on Royal Caribbean's Find My Kid feature for its Adventure Ocean kids' club since it was first tested on Icon of the Seas in 2024 and then rolled out to Star of the Seas in 2025.

Now, Royal Caribbean has brought Find My Kid to its third Icon-class ship, Legend of the Seas, giving parents on both sides of the Atlantic an easy way to check in on their kids without interrupting anyone's fun this summer.

Although my 13-year-old son just aged out of Royal Caribbean's Adventure Ocean kids' club, I plan to test out Find My Kid for my 9-year-old daughter when Legend of the Seas arrives in Florida this fall.

Find My Kid feature now available on two Icon-class ships

While Find My Kid never became a permanent feature on Icon of the Seas, it's now available on both Star of the Seas and Legend of the Seas, according to Royal Caribbean's website.

The Find My Kid feature in the Royal Caribbean app works with the Adventure Ocean WOW Band to enable parents to see where their kids - ages three to 12 only - are in public areas of the ship and in their stateroom, all from the deck maps in the app. Parents can also decide who else can see that information, so grandparents or older siblings in their traveling party can be looped in, too, if desired.

Although I wish Find My Kid was available to track my teen, I'm interested to see how it will work to give my teenage son access through the app to see where his sister is at any time on board the ship. It could also be a helpful feature for parents who want to give tweens freedom on a cruise to begin to roam with friends and older siblings.

When it comes to teens, Royal Caribbean gives anyone 13 and older the ability to chat directly through the app. That's something younger kids can't do, so Find My Kid can act as a sort of substitute for a teen being able to message their younger sibling to meet up around the ship with others in their party.

While Royal Caribbean's Find My Kid adds a layer of convenience and peace of mind for parents, keep in mind that it isn't a substitute for supervision. However, it can help reduce the chance of a child getting lost on board a massive megaship.

How to sign up for Find My Kid on Legend and Star of the Seas

Getting set up to use Find My Kid on a cruise is simple, but it does take a few steps and isn't free. Parents must first register their kids for Royal Caribbean's free Adventure Ocean youth program, then purchase the Adventure Ocean WOW Band, and finally, sign up for Find My Kid through the Royal Caribbean app. No internet package is required to use Find My Kid on board; you'll just need to connect to the ship's WiFi network to use it.

The Adventure Ocean WOW Band costs $14.99 and does more than just track location. The water-resistant, digital wristband doubles as a stateroom key, and can be used to make onboard purchases (if you authorize it), eliminating the need for kids to carry a SeaPass card.

WOW bands also work across future cruises so - as long as your child doesn't lose it - you won't need to buy another one for your next cruise. Although the Find My Kid feature is only available on Legend of the Seas and Star of the Seas, WOW bands can be used in place of SeaPass cards on Icon of the Seas, Oasis-class ships, Quantum-class ships, and select other ships. Adult versions are available, too.
