Authorities on Tuesday released the names of two people killed in a hit-and-run crash near Livingston on Monday morning.

Kewal Singh, 72, and Javir Kaur, 45, died in the crash, according to the Merced County Coroner’s Office. The crash occurred about 9 a.m. on Highway 99 at Westside Boulevard.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a white or silver sedan heading north on the freeway swerved into the center lane and hit a Nissan Xterra driven by Maninder Singh, 22.

The Xterra rolled over into the grassy center divide and continued into the southbound lanes of the highway. Kaur was riding in the back seat of the Xterra. She and Nirbhai Singh, 53, also in the back seat, were ejected. She died at the scene; he was taken by helicopter to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto with major injuries.

Kewal Singh was riding in the front passenger’s seat. He also died at the scene. Maninder Singh suffered major injuries and was taken to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.

All four people in the Xterra were members of a family from Laton, a small town in Fresno County.

The sedan continued heading north, hitting a second vehicle, a Nissan Versa driven by Sedra Nadine Sigarroa, 20, of Merced. The Versa veered into the southbound lanes but did not overturn. Sigarroa, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured.

In the Xterra, only the driver was wearing a seat belt, the CHP said.

Authorities are looking for the driver of the sedan, who did not stop. They ask anyone with information about the crash or the driver to call the CHP’s Merced office at (209) 356-2958.
