Chowchilla Stampede Saddles Up
The 58th annual Chowchilla Western Stampede kicked off Friday with the historic cattle drive down Robertson Boulevard, which looked a lot like the start of the event pictured here in 2014. Cowboys and cowgirls herded the steers to the Chowchilla Fairground for three days of team roping events attracting contestants from all over the western United States. Cash awards, western belt buckles and saddles are among the prizes to be given to winners. The Stampede runs through Sunday and is free to the public. The Stampede barrel race will be held Saturday at the fairground. All events are held under the covered arena.
