College for Kids signups

Merced College’s College for Kids will begin accepting registrations April 1 for the 2015 summer program. Arranged in three sessions, the classes and programs offered to area children include aquatics, arts, sports, cooking, math, science and language arts. The first session begins June 15. College for Kids enrichment classes are $60-$65 per class. Aquatics classes are $55 per class. Fees for individual sports camps vary. Talk Show Toastmasters

Women in Politics luncheon

The 11th annual Celebrating Women in Politics luncheon will be at noon Thursday at the Branding Iron, 640 W. 16th St. in Merced. Scheduled guest speaker is Kim Schaefer from Congressman Jim Costa’s office. Tickets are $25 and must be purchased in advance. No tickets are sold at the door. Pet carriers needed

New Beginnings of Merced needs carriers for the 200 plus animals they transport from Animal Control to no-kill rescues each month. Any carriers appropriate for animals 30 pounds and under in usable condition are acceptable, as are new carriers or money for their purchase. Receipts can be provided for tax purposes. Story time in Merced, Livingston

Join the fun at 10 a.m. Wednesdays for Baby Story Time and at 10:30 and 11:15 a.m. Fridays for Preschool Story Times at the Merced County Library, 2100 O Street. Preschool Story Time is 10:30 a.m. Thursdays at the Livingston Public Library, 1212 Main St. Story time helps increase a child’s print awareness and vocabulary and instills a love of books. Merced Flea and Farmers Market

The Merced Flea and Farmers Market runs every Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. behind the fairgrounds, 900 G St. EBT is accepted.

SCORE business counseling

SCORE is a national nonprofit organization that provides no-cost counseling to small businesses, and it is joining with the Greater Merced Chamber of Commerce to provide this service to anyone. National Alliance on Mental Illness

Merced County’s branch of the National Alliance on Mental Illness holds biweekly support groups for families affected by serious mental illness. For more information, call (209) 381-6844 and a volunteer will contact you within 48 hours.
