Winton man stabbed by suspected gang member, deputies say
A 34-year-old Winton man was hospitalized Wednesday night after a teenage barged into his apartment and stabbed him, according to Merced County Sheriff’s Office investigators.
Deputies were called to an apartment complex on California Street about 11 p.m. where they found a man with multiple stab wounds, Deputy Daryl Allen said.
The suspect, a 15-year-old confronted deputies, who used a stun gun to subdue him, Allen said.
The victim told deputies that the teen kicked in the apartment door and grabbed a kitchen knife and attacked him, deputies said.
Investigators say the incident may be gang related and described the 15-year-old as a known gang member. The teen was arrested and booked into jail, Allen said.
The victim was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, including stab wounds on his head and back.
