Man fatally struck by train in Merced

A man was hit and killed by a train early Wednesday morning in Merced.

The incident happened about 3:30 a.m. near D and 16th streets, Merced police Sgt. Dan Dabney said.

It’s not clear if the train was an Amtrak passenger train or a freight train.

Few details were immediately available.
