Art was on display in an Earth Day sort of way during the weekend in Merced, with scores of people filling the downtown area to take in the artwork, performances and other activities.

The spring version of the quarterly Art Hop was held from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday along Merced’s Main Street, between G and N streets. Organizers said the event’s theme was inspired by Earth Day, which is Wednesday.

It featured clothing designer and visual artist Amy Bianchini, whose work was on display in Bob Hart Square, where Canal and Main streets meet. Her two fashion shows in the square featured garments made strictly from recyclables and repurposed materials.

The work of other artists was also on display or involved in performances, with the Earth Day theme carried into other displays and art installations.
