Fire threatens home in South Merced

A small fire in a tent threatened a home in South Merced briefly Monday before firefighters extinguished the flames.

Fire broke out shortly after noon at a home in the 100 block of P Street near Gerard Avenue, just south of Childs Avenue in Merced, Cal Fire Engineer Andy McMurray said.

About 15 firefighters from the city of Merced and Cal Fire Merced County responded to the small blaze. Flames sparked around a tent occupied someone who was taking care of the property.

Firefighters managed to stop the fire before it spread to the home.

No injuries were reported.
